Tales From Lockdown
With our shop closed for the first time in 31 years I have had time to reflect on three decades of trading and gather together some of the lovely stories that have happened in the shop
Last October a couple came in – Nell and Tom from Scandinavia. As a keen fisherman, Tom always came to the Hay area to fish on the river Wye and he loved to visit the shop – especially when I used to deal in antique fishing tackle. (Piscatoria was an interest of mine as I am a passionate fisherwoman)
On this visit Tom introduced me to his partner Nell, who bought one of our Leather Studded Cuffs – part of our Leather Jewellery range. We have been making these Leather Studded Cuffs in our workshop for years, using the best quality English bridle leather and nickle or brass domed studs, that were traditionally used to decorate working horse harnesses. Then Tom commissioned a Cuff for himself
The couple returned a few days later to collect the second Cuff and it was only then that they told me that they were getting married and the Leather Studded Cuffs were to be their wedding rings! How lovely was that and I was delighted to be part of their happy story. I hope that they will back again this Autumn to see us
