This is the time of the year that Winter Thrushes’ appear. What are Winter Thrushes? Well it is a collective name for Fieldfares, Mistle Thrushes, Redwings, Bramblings and Starlings. These birds descend on the UK from Scandinavia at this time of the year to devour the last of our Autumn’s berries and fruits before the Winter sets in. What amazes me is the understatement of the previous statement – as if it is no mean feat for a bird to just ‘pop over’ to the UK for a feast of berries, but like so many of our Winter bitds that is just what they do.
