At this year’s Winter Hay Festival I went to hear the author, Chloe Dalton, speak about her new book Raising Hare. This subject is of interest to me as I am lucky enough to have a healthy and ever increasing hare populaltion in my garden and wild flower meadow. Chloe’s story or raising a leveret during lockdown is atonishing and she is an unlikely candidate for such an experience – a self-confessed towny and foreign policy specialist, and a former political advisor to William Hague. The unlikely relationship that developes between Chloe and the leveret that she rescues is gracefully written and one that seems to benefit the author more than the mammal. I don’t want to give anything away as this a memorable book, full of wonderful surprises and one that I have loved reading.
