Meadowlands Update
Meadowlands Update
As part of the Green Recovery Grant, Herefordshire Meadows Group are restoring over 50 hectares of Wildflower Meadow across Herefordshire and our 5 acre field is a small part of this great initiative. My seed arrived from Emorsgate Seeds, as well as a huge bag of locally harvested Yellow Rattle Seed (known as the meadow maker). With a break in the weather, Adam from High House Equestrian came at night to scarify, sow and roll the wildflower seed. The Yellow Rattle seed was sown later by hand; it has to be sown in the Autumn as it needs the cold Winter weather to germinate. Keeping my fingers crossed I am now hoping to see seedlings appear and the next couple of months will be a tricky time as I try to monitor if the grass is taking over and if I need to put sheep on the field to keep the grass down and give the wildflowers a chance to establish
Help save our meadows! During COP26 Grasslands+ , a coalition of three charities: Bumblebee Conservation Trust, Butterfly Conservation and Plantlife, who have come together to protect and restore the planet’s grasslands, savannahs, plains, steppes and our meadows and have asked all of us to get involved and sign their petition
