The Novelty Dog Show – Penpont
The Penpont Dog Show – More accurately the Penpont Garden Open Day and Novelty DOG SHOW, and my job was to help organize this memorable event, held in the beautiful grounds of Penpont House, near Brecon.
Held in glorious late summer sunshine, this first ever Penpont Dog show, was as far as I am concerned a great success! Nothing to do with the fact that my new lurcher Boudica won best puppy and reserve in show! This really was a Novelty Dog show, with something for nearly every kind of dog, from best biscuit trick to the longest stay and the quickest recall and musical sits! Those who were fortunate enough to win a rosette, (and most did!) were amazed at our beautiful handmade leather rosettes, designed by Charlotte Agius of The Great English Outdoor, when she had masses of other stuff to do. They were a work of art, few will appreciate that the material she choose was actually our 200 hundred year old reindeer leather, discovered perfectly preserved at the bottom of the sea -but that another story and you can find out about it on our website
Life is full of wonderful surprises, who would have thought that by entering your most precious motley hound into the waggiest dog competition that you would be the proud owner of a handmade 200yr old Russian reindeer leather rosette! But then that is what The Great English Outdoor is all about! And so is life at Penpont. The homemade cream teas we a total sell out – far too good for the canine visitors. Anne, Vina Hoggs mother had been up all night baking scones and cakes and was worried that she had over catered; not a single crumb remained on a plate
A huge thank you is well and truly due to Vina and Gavin Hogg who gave their house, and garden and devoted time to make this garden event such a success and all the funds went to Penpont Church
Next up is The Frampton Country Fair where 2 years ago, I left my stand to take part in the Ladies Fly Fishing Competition and won! What a wonderful moment that was, and a one off I suspect!
