The Great English Outdoors’ Dogs

 

 

 

We are all devoted to our dogs at The Great English Outdoors.  Athene’s last dog, a hybrid terrier called Biscuit, died last year and we are still in mourning.  My family is a Border Terrier one – and I am the proud owner of Tarka aged 126 in dog years and still going strong; and Nutmeg, a positive youngster at 10 human years!  After Biscuit’s tragic departure, we were all in tears and mindful of Kipling’s poem, the Power of the Dog, and those fateful lines, I bid you beware, Of giving your heart to a dog to tear. Then along came Bronny who just walked into Athene’s life at the venerable age of 14, a Welsh sheep dog past her best but now much loved and cared for. Now there is huge excitement at work with the arrival of the new Gazehound puppy for Athene, yet to be named and mostly deerhound.  Watch this space! She wanted to call it Fly but as any afficianado of Sheep Dog Trials and fans of One Man and His Dog, will know most of the dogs in the surrounding hills are called Fly, so it could be a little confusing.  Pearl is the favourite at the moment, as in knitting techniques!  Such is our love of the canine species we have a special section on our website just for dogs http://www.greatenglish.co.uk/Dogs.htm.  Take a look at the range of luxurious leather dog collars – my old Border Terrier is still wearing hers!!! 18 years later!
