In The English Garden
For this year’s Hay Literary Festival we are not taking a stand on site as in the past but opening the gardens at the Great English Outdoors. In the English Garden will be open for the duration of the Festival, from 28th May to 5th June 2011.Over the first weekend of the Festival on Saturday 28th May and Sunday 29th May, local artisan, Gareth Irwin, Green Wood Worker, will be demonstrating his traditional skills, from 11am – 4pm on both days. On Friday 3rd June, Athene English, Welsh Blankets expert will be talking on the history of Welsh Blankets at 2.30pm. On the following day, Saturday 4th June at 2.30pm, renowned textiles expert, John Gillow, traveller, collector and lecturer will be talking on World Textiles, with particular emphasis on African and Asian textiles. John Gillow will also be available for book signing. More treats will follow on Sunday 5th June, from 11am-4pm, when texitle desginer, Ingrid Wagner (as seen on BBC Countryfile, This Morning and Sky TV) will be running an all day Workshop and demonstrating her Big Knitting – an exciting & fast contemporary take on a traditional craft, featuring her fabulous recycled Big Knit Yarn and other alternative materials. The event promises to be great fun and very definitely different. This is your chance to learn how to create a contemporary, interior textile in a short amount of time . For all ages. No experience necessary. Ingrid’s Big Knit kits for the home will be available to buy at this event. Don’t miss it!
This programme of events has been organised for all our customers and friends, come and visit the beautiful gardens, relax on the lawns, enjoy the refreshments on offer and listen to, participate in or watch one of the talks, workshops and demonstrations taking place over both weekends.
